I can still remember the elevated focus and stare I gave her when the comment was made. I did not expect a middle-aged European person with advanced degrees to be, in essence, deviating from traditional philosophies of the collegiate pedagogy, to champion Eastern philosophy and styles of healing that many in the Western world would call crazy or weird.
